Amendoal - A produção e o consumo de frutos secos fazem parte do quotidiano do povo valpacense desde há centenas ou até milhares de anos. O concelho de Valpaços é o 6º maior produtor de amêndoa de Trás-os-Montes com uma área aproximada de 1600 ha, correspondente a 7% da região.
Almond trees - The production and consumption of nuts have been part of daily life for hundreds or even thousands of years. The municipality of Valpaços is the 6th largest producer of almonds in Trás-os-Montes with an area of approximately 1,600 ha, equivalent to 7% of the region.

This interactive museum is linked to the wine sector and portrays the entire Trás-os-Montes wine region. This is an excellent place for radical sports such as climbing. It is located in the River Rabaçal valley and it has an monocle at the top where you can get a glimpse of the magnificent view over part of the River Rabaçal and the surrounding mountains.

A Igreja de S. Nicolau, de arquitetura religiosa, maneirista e barroca, impõe-se pelas suas singulares dimensões, que celebram a importância passada desta localidade, fruto da sua antiguidade (que remonta à Idade Média), da localização estratégica no concelho e da riqueza agrícola.
The Church of S. Nicolau, with its religious, Mannerist and Baroque architecture, is imposing for its amazing size, which celebrates the past importance of this locality because of its antiquity (which dates back to the Middle Ages), the strategic location in the municipality and the agricultural wealth.
Os lagares escavados na rocha estão entre os vestígios mais antigos associados ao cultivo da vinha em Trás-os-Montes e há investigadores que acreditam que, neste território, a produção de vinho pode remontar à época pré-histórica. Foram, no entanto, os romanos que incrementaram o gosto pelo consumo do vinho.
The presses dug into the rock are among the oldest vestiges associated with vine growing in Trás-os-Montes and there are researchers who believe that wine production can go back to prehistoric times in this part of the country. It was the Romans, however, who increased the taste for wine consumption.
Os azeites de Valpaços distinguem-se pelo baixo teor de acidez que lhe garantem a certificação DOP. O azeite de Valpaços é extraído através das variedades Verdeal, Madural e Cobrançosa. A produção anual atinge normalmente os dez milhões de quilos de azeitonas, que perfazem sensivelmente dois milhões de litros de azeite. Valpaços tem 5462 hectares de olival.
Valpaços olive oils stand out because of their low acidity, which guarantees them ‘DOP’ certification. The olive oil is extracted from Verdeal, Madural and Cobrançosa olives. They normally grow about 10 million kilos of olives here, which makes roughly 2 million litres of oil. Valpaços has 5,462 hectares of olive groves.

Ponte do Arquinho
A seguir à aldeia de Possacos, Valpaços, Vila Real, Portugal
Ponte romana sobre o rio Calvo, relativamente bem conservada, da qual ainda subsistem da primitiva construção o arco e o tabuleiro. Esta histórica construção data provavelmente do século I d.C., na altura de ocupação Romana do território, e integraria a Via XVII do Império Romano, que ligaria “Bracara Augusta” (Braga) a “Asturica Augusta” (Astorga, Espanha).
This Roman bridge over the River Calvo is relatively well preserved as the arch and the deck of the primitive construction are still there. This historic construction probably dates back to the 1st century AD, at the time when the Romans were here and would form part of the Roman Empire’s Via XVII that linked “Bracara Augusta” (Braga) to “Asturica Augusta” (Astorga, Spain).

A castanha é um fruto de excelência em Portugal, em particular na região de Trás-os-Montes. A Serra da Padrela é o ícone desta castanha DOP, que está na origem da certificação regional, e é entre esta freguesia e a de Carrazedo de Montenegro que temos a maior mancha de castanheiros Judios da Europa. Aqui a variedade predominante, a apelidada “Rainha das Castanhas”, é a Judia. Uma variedade muito procurada para o uso culinário e para a confeção do famoso e muito apreciado “Marron Glacé”.
Chestnuts are one of the top fruits in Portugal, particularly in the region of Trás-os-Montes. Serra da Padrela is the icon of this regionally certified chestnut, and it is here and in and Carrazedo de Montenegro that we have the largest extension of Judia variety chestnut trees in Europe. The predominant variety, the so-called “Queen of Chestnuts”, is the ‘Judia’. It is a very sought-after variety for cooking and for making the famous “Marron Glacé”.
O vinho e a vinha em Valpaços têm grande significado histórico, e já se produzia o “vinho passum”, no tempo dos romanos, vinho que servia para alimentar e satisfazer as tropas na altura. Foi a partir do vinho que surgiu o nome Valpaços. Nos últimos anos têm surgido novos produtores que apostaram na plantação de vinhas novas para a obtenção de vinhos de alta qualidade. Os vinhos de Valpaços podem ser encontrados em vários mercados, como o Europeu, Brasileiro, Americano e Angolano.
The wine and the vineyards in Valpaços have great historical significance, and “Passum” wine was produced in Roman times, wine that was used to feed and satisfy the troops at the time. Valpaços took its name from Vino Passum. In recent years new producers have emerged who have invested in planting new vineyards to obtain high-quality wines. Wines from Valpaços can be found around the world in Europe, Brazil, the United States and Angola.
